Progress, Not Politics

November 5 note from Jim Hawkins:

To the many thousands of friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens in Robertson and Sumner Counties who voted for me, thank you. Although I did not win this race, I am in strong and good spirits, thanks to the Lord, my wife Betsy and our families, and my many friends and supporters.
To the more than one thousand friends who supported my campaign through telephone calls, yard signs, canvassing door-to-door, financial contributions, working at polling places, waving signs, and voter meetings, my family and I will always be grateful. Thank you very much.
My campaign was based on moving away from divisive partisan politics, and on working together in order to strengthen and support education, health care, smart growth, good jobs, quality of life for our families and communities, and open and accountable government. It has been a privilege to advance these ideas and to share and discuss them with thousands of fellow citizens.
I am grateful to my campaign manager, Drew Staniewski, and to Joshua Gwinn, who reported for Peace Corps duty in Africa in October, and Evan Espey, who served as field director for my campaign. These three men served with intellect, passion, practicality, and dedication. I also want to salute Len Assante of Gallatin and Shannon Polen of Greenbrier for their hard work and positive energy as leaders of our local Democratic Party groups, and Michelle Haynes for her loyal service as my campaign treasurer.
After receiving the election returns on the night of November 4, I called my opponent, Sen. Diane Black. She returned my call, and I congratulated her, her family, and her supporters on her win in this race. I told Sen. Black that I believe that she has a heart for service and that there will be many opportunities in the next four years for her to help move Tennessee forward.
Betsy and I will continue our path forward as caring, committed citizens. As Betsy said to me this morning, "I can't wait to find out what plans God has for us in the months and years ahead." Amen.
